My personal story with the pill… not a pretty one

Similar to many, I was on the pill for over 10 years of my life. Once I decided to come off the pill, I didn’t know what I know now, and had no idea what kind of a nightmare was awaiting me on the other side…

Once my pill was no longer on board and it wasn’t suppressing the natural activity of my very own hormones, I started getting excruciatingly painful menstrual cramps during the first 2 days of my period. These cramps were so painful that I will never forget how scared I was looking at my calendar, counting down to my next period. I dreaded my periods. I knew that when they struck, there was nowhere to hide. My pain level was off the chart. Diarrhea, nausea and severe cramps were my hallmark symptoms and I sort of resigned to the fact that it would always be like this. But that wasn’t everything…
